Our institution, Virudhunagar S. Vellaichamy Nadar Polytechnic College, Virudhunagar was started with a noble intention of providing quality Diploma education to students mostly from the rural, economically backward background in the year 1958. The founder, Thiru. S.Vellaichamy Nadar, a visionary recognized the importance of technical education in our business town, Virudhunagar during the Second Five Year Plan (1956-61) whose primary focus on rapid industrialization . The Management in the different periods developed the required infrastructure, lab facilities to deliver quality knowledge and skills to provide skilled manpower with values for the industries that came up rapidly. We are proud to note that our institution has moulded children from villages into leaders in the role of key- decision –making in industries, Entrepreneurs who provide employment for thousands of people, Scientists in Premier Global Research Centres.
Realizing theory (Knowledge) as a product of conscious practise, the stalwart staff team of this institution acquired knowledge from different quarters of the world through standard books written by authorities in the concerned fields, periodical training programmes conducted in Premier institutions and transferred that knowledge to the students. Theory with Conscious practice enrich the knowledge. Our Diploma Curriculum dedicates more time for skill-development. The world-class laboratories developed to reinforce the concepts learnt in theory by the Management impart the necessary skills to cope up with the rapid development. The lab exercises have been designed to verify the knowledge (theory) under simple conditions. The purpose of doing the experiments and pre-requisites which leads to idea-crystallization are imparted through Viva-Voce. Conceiving the idea, Stage by stage fabrication and troubleshooting at each stage, right tools for right job are dealt through the Project Work.
To cope up the rapid advancements in technology, students are encouraged to attend the Workshops, Seminars, Paper-Presentations, Various Competitions conducted in-house and in other institutions. The discipline, training to face hardships in life, to overcome obstacles are delivered through the Extra-Curricular activities – NCC, NSS, YRC. The feedback from alumni, industries and industries who are our important stake holders are taken into account to fine tune the education systems to cope up the technology advancement. The Training team brainstorms the training needs necessary and trains the digital-era students. The Placement System meticulously developed has built a strong rapport with about 400 industries right from the Corporates to the Small-Scale industries and our institution provides 100% Placement with a primary focus of Permanent employment in Core industries. Our institution is the nodal-centre for Pooled Campus drives in which students from Polytechnics from South Tamil Nadu also get benefitted. The Technical Awareness team disseminates the importance and the scope of technical education to the needy by inviting the students and their parents to our institution and arranging the lab visits through which they get exposed to recent technology advancements. The R&D Centre has been started to impart the skill sets for developing a product and to expose the students to recent technologies. The Technology Based Learning team members are devising a model to formulate strategies for on-line education which is the need of this hour.
Our institution is one of the premier institutions in Tamil Nadu provided autonomy to devise our own syllabus and evaluation from the year 1994. My sincere thanks to the Management for their initiatives and the support from the teaching and non-teaching staff of this 62-year institution. We are sure that with we continue to transfer the infinite labour of the different generations of Scientists throughout the world to our students and thus this institution has become immortal in the field of Technical Education!
