DEPARTMENT OF MODERN OFFICE PRACTICE

VSVN Polytechnic College, a Govt. aided Autonomous Institution noted for its discipline and academic excellence, was founded in 1958 and managed by Mahamai Tharappus of Virudhunagar business community. The department was established during the year 1971 and has been accredited for 3 years by NBA, AICTE, New Delhi with the effect from 21 - 06 - 2010.

Diploma in Commercial Practice (D.C.P) Course was started in the year 1971 with a sanctioned intake of 30 students. Later, the intake was increased to 40. Now, the course is renamed as Diploma in Modern Office Practice (D.M.O.P) from 2003 onwards.

Eminent Doctorates and Post Graduate teaching and non-teaching staff are rendering their whole-hearted services to the Department.

To be a Department of excellence in Modern Office Practice and Training individuals, focusing on the needs of the Nation and Society in tune with Technological Developments

Mission 1 (M1):To elevate Modern Office Practice graduates to the need of the social, economic and technical developments.

Mission 2 (M2):To develop technocrats as skilled employee and eminent entrepreneur.

Mission 3 (M3):To train technocrats in updated technology with higher human values.

N1 Scheme is followed for present II and III year Students.

R23 Scheme is followed for present I year Students.

Under autonomy the academic programmes are designed and updated by a board of studies once in three years at department level and academic Board at state level. The curriculum is devised with an objective to enrich the knowledge of the students and particularly practical application of the knowledge so gained. The curriculum is implemented after getting approval from the Academic Board and final approval from the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai.

The Board of studies propose new courses, Curricula and Syllabi. It also proposes modification and changes or repeat of existing ones. The Board of studies recommends panels of Internal and External examines to the academic council. It advises the Academic council on all academic matters. The Board of studies meeting may be scheduled as and when necessary but necessarily once a term (or) twice a year. The members nominated for the Board of studies shall be 2 years.

The department has a separate Library facility with technical books, journals and a collection of CD’s and technical video tapes. Apart from this, central library of the institution has very good collection of technical and general volumes. This is upgraded by the addition of latest books every year. Further the library subscribes technical and popular journals.

The students have to do a project work as part of the curriculum. In order to encourage students to do worthwhile and innovative projects, every year prizes are awarded for the best three projects in Institution wise, region wise and state wise. The selection of project work should be taken up in V term of study and will be reviewed twice during 4th and 10th week of VI term of study.
